Happy New Year!
"KennyCrane" and everyone at YouTubeStars.com would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy and Healthy New Year!
2006 has been a great year for YouTube! Thousands of people became members and millions of videos have been created and watched. I've been reporting on YouTube on this blog since June, 2006. There are over 50 posts here. I've set up a YouTubeStars Photo Gallery, and over 50 YouTubers have sent in their pictures so far.
In addition to this blog, I've created a YouTube Top 100 Weekly Chart. It tracks the most subscribed members of YouTube, week after week. You can see what position your favorite YouTubers are in each week, and how they moved in the chart from the previous week. You can also see a bar chart that shows all previous weekly subscriber numbers for anyone in the chart.
I also have launched the YTStats service. This new website lets any YouTube member keep track of their number of subscribers and number of profile views. These numbers are recorded weekly. Users can also view the number of views and comments on any of their videos; these numbers are updated daily. This service also lets you create and access a list of "My Favorite Videos" (MFV). Add a YouTube video to your MFV list and you will be able to give it a rating, write private notes about it, and create your own tags to make it easy to search for the video. You can search your MFV list by channel, title, notes, tags and ratings. New features will be added soon, so sign up for YTStats today!
YouTube is going to host a New Year's Eve Bash!
According to this news story from C/Net News, YouTube is teaming up with Warner Music Group and Chevrolet to produce it's first New Year's Eve Countdown. The article goes on to say:
Special video messages from YouTube celebrities, such as Boh3m3, Smosh, Terra Naomi, Renetto, Chad Vadar, and TheWineKone, along with artists from WMG labels Atlantic Records, Warner Bros. Records and Warner Music International will be featured on the home page.
In addition to videos from top YouTube personalities, WMG will provide special video content from New Year's celebrations with its artists as well as music videos and concert footage. "Almost-live" videos from New Year's concerts from New York City, Scotland, Los Angeles, and Houston will be uploaded directly from the venues using mobile phones. Some of the bands playing include, Panic! At the Disco, the Goo Goo Dolls and Red Hot Chili Peppers. Users can upload their videos in a special New Year's YouTube group at www.youtube.com/group/newyears.
Here are three videos by three excellent videomakers. Each of them has made some thoughtful and intelligent videos in 2006 and I look forward to what they have to say in 2007. Watch these videos and subscribe to them if you like them!

She often talks about what is going on in her life and honestly shares her thoughts and feelings with us. In addition to this video, be sure to also watch Jess in this video in which she discusses the concept of "fame" on YouTube, it's excellent! Now, watch what Jess has to say about me (and just look at that cute puppy in the intro, awww!):

Cinema du jour, part 13 - Paperlilies, spricket24, capo420420 and The Skinny
But first, some YouTubeStars news.
Comments on this blog will now be moderated. The spammers have found us, which is really quite an honor! You've got to be popular to attract spammers. =D Keep on commenting, good people, and we'll accept and get them posted - as long as it's not spam!
Paperlilies debuts at number 54 this week on the YouTube Top 100 Weekly Chart! Wow, she almost doubled her number of subscribers in One Week. She went from 3272 subscribers last week to 6069 this week! She already had a large fan base but she was also featured on the Annie Mac show on BBC Radio 1 and that probably was part of the reason that she got so many new fans. Congrats, Bryony!
New features were added this week to the YTStats program. You can now search your Favorite Videos list by Title/Channel/Notes (your private notes). You can also search by your ratings and by your own tags. We have over 20 people signed up to use the program so far. It's an online program so there's nothing to download, and it's FREE to use! Sign up now or login if you've already signed up.
Coming soon! Two new features coming soon at YTStats:
1) If you've signed up, YTStats already keeps a weekly record of your number of profile views and number of subscribers. Soon, it will keep a DAILY record of the number of views and number of comments on ALL of your videos! You'll be able to see, in table and chart form, how your videos are doing, over time.
2) Import your YouTube "My Favorites" list into YTStats! You'll be able to use all of our search methods to search and sort your favorite YouTube videos. We'll have even more ways to search and sort in the future.
Now, on to the Movies Of The Day...
He Had It Coming
Paperlilies (read more, here and here) is having a great week. As noted above, she debuted on the Top 100 list at number 54 because she almost doubled her number of subscribers. Part of her recent success is due to this video. It's an excellent music video for the "He Had It Coming" (Cell Block Tango) song from the movie "Chicago". Bryony plays the part of each of the woman singing about how she ended up in jail, complete with costume changes and wigs. The results are fabulous, just watch!

Fun with a HAT!
Here's a funny video from spricket24, also known as Karen, a 29-year-old woman from Minneapolis. She is in the number 18 position on the most subscribed YouTube Comedians Category list. Karen does random sketches about a heavy winter hat that she "stole" from her father years ago. Don't miss the "Goat Pie" segment at the 2 minute mark, LOL! Karen is a pleasure to watch and you never know what she'll say next. Watch and Laugh Out Loud!

Coal Miners , Johnny Cash & Coal Miners Daughter my MOM ;)
Capo420420 is Jeff WIlliams, a musician from North Carolina. Jeff plays acoustic guitar, but not always the same way that everyone else plays guitar. Jeff is one of only two in the world who are able to play a guitar in a piano-like manner. I can't describe it, you'll have to see it to understand. Watch this video, and be amazed! The video that I will present here is a tribute to coal miners and their families. It's a great folk song; music and lyrics were written by Jeff, and it is sung by Jeff and a background vocalist. Watch and listen!

The Skinny with Capo420420 - special shoutout to DiGiTiLsOuL
The Skinny is "The ONLY daily show on youtube that features news and a different member each day all packed into 10 minutes." It's on the SrJohnBosco YouTube channel and John is the host of the show. John wants to support and promote lesser known YouTube members, and I support that! Watching any one of their videos (currently 42) is a great way to learn about a YouTube member that you may not have found out about yet. In this video, sunshinetaylor (more here) introduces the show with a short comedy bit. Then John talks about recent interactions with DigitalSoul and about his goal of getting an average YouTuber featured on the front pages of YouTube every day. At about the 5 minute mark, capo420420 (see above) is introduced and discussed. John shows clips from three of Jeff's videos. Watch this video and then subscribe to SrJohnBosco so that you can watch The Skinny every day!

Santa Baby
Darahgna a.k.a. Angharad (read more, here) just uploaded a nice early Christmas present to the YouTube community! She acts out a lipsync performance of the classic Christmas song, "Santa Baby" dressed in a red satin dress with white trim and matching cap. It's a sweet video; watch it! Surprise...
Here's a very good video from well-known YouTube personality, Renetto. Renetto is currently number 13 on the Top 100 chart, down one position from last week. Check the chart next week to see what position Renetto and others are in. In this video, Renetto talks about things that happened in his life that most of you will be able to relate to. It's a serious video but it's good to stop and think about life once in a while.

Re: Surprise
Here's a thoughtful response video to Renetto's vid, shown above. It is from tlg847, also known as Tom, a 59-year-old man from Connecticut. Tom, a trained clinical psychologist with a PhD, has made over 60 insightful videos and I recommend that you browse through his video list and watch some of them. If you're a Paperlilies fan, be sure to watch his video about the blob painting that he bought from her through eBay. In this video, Tom mentions some videos that he's watched recently and then discusses the relationships that exist in the YouTube community. Watch it, think about what Tom is saying, and participate in the YouTube community!
