Eurovision 2010 Winner: Satellite by Lena Meyer-Landrut

Every year for the past 55 years, songwriters compete in the Eurovision contest. Eurovision 2010 just ended. The final took place on May 29th 2010 in Telenor Arena, Bærum, Akershus, Greater Oslo, Norway. The winning song was "Satellite" - written by American Julie Frost and Dane John Gordon. This was the German entry to the contest and was sung by Lena Meyer-Landrut. On the night of the finals, one half of all the households in Germany were watching it on TV!

Lena is 19 and was born May 23rd, 1991 in Hanover Germany. Although she has had some dance lessons, she has not had any formal acting or vocal training. Despite this, her stage presence and charisma, and performance style called a "mix of loveliness, professionalism and craziness" made her an early favorite in the Eurovision 2010 contest.

"Satellite" sold over 100,000 downloads in its first week, making it Germany's quickest selling digital song ever. The video, on the eurovision channel, came out in March and has over 16 Million views! I had not heard the song or seen the video until I saw a cover version of it made by Tyler Ward featuring Julia Sheer on lead vocals. Don't miss the killer guitar break by Lance! This version rocks! Both videos are below.

But first, The News!

Honestly, I liked them both. They are both good, just different. The German girl sounds like she has an Aussie accent to me. I like her dress. The other one rocks more and I like the guitar parts.

I really like this song, and the cover! Great article.
