YouTube Five Years
As part of YouTube's Five Year celebration, YouTube created a new channel named FiveYear. Today we will see videos from some of the early YouTubeStars as they talk about their years on YouTube.
But first, The News!

Thanks to everyone who entered OUR CONTEST to win a copy of Mike Lombard's latest release, "Songs For A New Day"! We had 21 comments on our interview with Mike, and each commenter was entered in the contest. The contest ended Midnight Eastern time on June 20th. Here are the two winners: Danielaf555 and leenybella - Congrats to both of you!
Now, here are stories from some original YouTubeStars!
Lonelygirl15
Jessica Rose played the part of Bree on the Lonelygirl15 channel. Originally, people thought she was just another vlogger making videos in her room and uploading them to YouTube. Soon it was revealed that there was a small production company behind the channel. LG15 became the Most Subscribed YouTube channel on the Top 100 Weekly Chart of September 18, 2006. Geriatric1927 had been number one. Before that, Brookers and FilthyWhore spent time at the top spot.

THANKS for all the nice comments! :) What can I say? Hmmm. My friend Daniel helped me set up this account and he helps me out with the videos (he's kinda a computer genius). I'm homeschooled so I guess that makes me a freak. Not! I don't care about a lot of the same things people talk about on YouTube but I'm trying to learn :) I do know about lots of random things (since I read ALOT)... so if you want to talk about quantum physics I just read "Surely You're Joking Mr. Feynman?" He's a complete nutjob but BRILLIANT! What else... uh okay I also know a lot about photography. I LOVE Dan Eldon. He was this war photographer who took tons of pictures of Africa and was killed by an angry mob when he was only 23. Crazy huh? I'd like to be like him someday (except for the dying part :). So anyways I'm on here a lot so talk to you soon!
Geriatric1927
Peter Oakley is known on YouTube as Geriatric1927. He was 79 when he first uploaded to YouTube. His charming style soon won over the community and he became the Most Subscribed member in the fall of 2006. Peter is affectionately known as "The Internet Grandad."

I am a widower living alone in the county in the middle of England Uk. My life has been very varied but my love of motorcycles has remained with me all of my life (no I don't have piercings or tattoos).I am a bit of a recluse I suppose as partying and such do not appeal. I have a degree in fine art which I got at the age of 60+ so have interests there.Blues music is essential to my well being and have been addicted since a child. I have a background in mechanical engineering. I guess that's enough. Ask me if you want to know more.
Renetto
Paul Robinett is Renetto on YouTube. He started out in mid 2006 by doing "Renetto Reviews" videos. These were a series of funny commentaries on videos made by popular YouTubers, notably the highly subscribed LittleLoca. Paul used a goofy voice which was reminiscent of Bill Murry's "CaddyShack" character. We wore black thick-framed glasses, donned iPod earphones and stuck a toothpick in his upper lip to look like the part he was playing. Eventually he dropped the act and made many different kinds of videos, from comedy to vlogging to lifestreaming to community boosting. Paul still vlogs and can also be found on his site, Vloggerheads.

Various Videos
The LonelyGirl15 crew have wrapped up what they are calling "Season One" of their popular video series. LG15 remains the second most subscribed channel on YouTube and is also popular on MySpaceTV, where they showed 12 finale videos a day before they were available on YT. Below, we show the Season One recap video and a News video that covers the Season ending story. We'll also watch a new and talented singer and a fun dance clip from one of the 80's most popular movies.
But first, let's have a look at this week's YouTube Top 100 Chart. There was no change at all in the Top 10 spots. There were three position swaps in the Top 20 - JamesNintendoNerd and Brookers, kevjumba and GayGod, and universalmusic group and linkinparktv. The biggest move this week was by sxephil who moved up 19 to the number 49 position. Spricket24 is back on the chart at #95 and citizenchong (Tommy Chong) is back at number #100. This week's Featured Video is from FairyPixie. I find her videos to be funny and interesting. Check her out!
lonelygirl15 Season 1 Recap
Are you new to YouTube? If you are, you may not yet have come across the most popular video series in the history of YouTube. Watch this Season 1 recap to get an idea of what all the veteran YouTubers, and news media, have been intrigued with for the past year. (See more LonelyGirl15 videos and commentary here.) Even if you've seen many of the LG15 vids, you'll want to watch this to be reminded of highlights from previous episodes.

The Word Episode Three
There's a new News Channel in town! TheeNews broadcast Episode One two weeks ago, with a lead story about LisaNova. The newscaster calls himself The Stranger and appears on screen in a hat with a bandana covering his face. But here in Ep 3, we see Walter Cronkite and listen to Mister Stranger's voiceover as he talks about LG15, nalts and the GOP Republican presidential candidates CNN/YouTube debates.

Any Man Of Mine - Kitty Brucknell sings Shania Twain
Here's a great cover of a Shania Twain hit, sung by talented and attractive YouTuber kittybrucknell. Kitana lives in London and adores country music. She just joined YT on June 18th and already has over 100 subscribers and 12 videos to check out. Don't miss her a capella version of Amazing Grace. You'll also get to hear her speaking voice as she introduces the song. Best wishes to Kitty, the newest YouTubeStar!

Breakfast Club Dance
This is a short fun clip from the popular 80s movie, The Breakfast Club. The kids all dance to a rockin' tune, each in their own style. Check out the dance moves! I know I've done all of them at one time or another, how about you? If you remember the 80s fondly, read this article about the sometimes cheesy music and fashions of the 80s. Enjoy!

Where are they now?
Tonight, I was watching a movie on TV called "Waxworks". While watching this 1988 horror-comedy, I noticed that one of the stars was Deborah Foreman, the co-star, along with Nicolas Cage, of 1983's "Valley Girl". I was a big fan of the movie because I saw it on cable shortly after I returned from California on an enjoyable business trip. It reminded me of the good times I had in the LA area. Also, the music in the film is pretty cool. My three faves are the theme song "Girls Like Me" by the Bonnie Hayes Combo, "The Fanatic" by Felony, and "Jukebox (Don't Put Another Dime)" by The Flirts. I began to wonder where Debby Foreman is now and I found out, from her website, that she is teaching yoga at UCLA. Good for her!
What about the YouTubeStars of the past? Do you still follow their videos? Here's a chance to catch up with some of the big names from the earlier days of YouTube.
Loca's new Movie!
LittleLoca has been making movies on YouTube for almost a year now. She never really went away but she has been involved in other projects lately. One big thing in her world has been a half hour movie that she stars in! Check it out at http://www.bullfighterscafe.com/Loca/ticket.html. In early May, it will be one year since Stevie Ryan brought her LittleLoca to YouTube and she is still going strong!

NOW IT CAN BE TOLD....THE SECRET IS OUT
Last summer, a 79 year old UK gentleman named Peter made a few videos for YouTube. Within a week, he was featured and began a lightning fast climb to the top of the Most Subscribed chart. We first wrote about Geriatric1927 in that first week. Peter is still in the top 10 (number 9) on the YouTube Top 100 Weekly Chart this week and people still love his videos. Even though he has been offered quite a lot of publicity from newspapers, radio and television - Peter prefers to keep a low profile. But he recently had the opportunity to work with the Zimmers, a group of over-60 people who got together and made a cover of The Who's "My Generation". Watch this video, then check out the song on the Zimmers Myspace page!

Communication Terminated
What could that title mean? It's the latest video from Lonelygirl15. I first noticed LG15 last summer when she first began to become controversial. I had seen her first few videos and she seemed like a lot of other teens who blog on YT. But it was her "My Parents Suck" video released on July 4th that really got her noticed. Read all about that video, here. LG15 is still the Most Subscribed YouTube channel and no one is even close. Her channel continues to put out a few vids each week and the story continues. But are we near the end? Watch the video and then read the comments!

Daxflame - YouTubeStar!
Here we go again! YouTube is experiencing another Real/Fake debate over Daxflame, an alleged 15 year old socially awkward young man who vblogs, often emotionally, sometimes in a dinner jacket. Daxflame, who claims that his real first name is Bernice, debuted this week in the Top 100 Weekly Chart at number 73 with 8798 subscribers! Dax just joined YouTube on January 2nd of this year and he already has uploaded 43 videos, most of them are what he calls "video diaries". Have a look at these four video diary episodes and decide for yourself - is this a socially awkward young man who sometimes has a fit, or is this a talented actor with writers and a crew? Is Dax real or is he following in the footsteps of Lonelygirl15, LittleLoca and the Emo Kids?
My First Video Diary Entry
In this first video, Daxflame introduces himself and talks about his real name, Bernice. Although he stumbles over his words, he does appear somewhat confident about himself. Look at the tags he chose for this video: diary video blog teenager boy human cool very handsome. The video has almost 60 thousand views and almost 200 comments including: "That was hilarious! I love it!", "You are so cute.", "ur a good actor man keep putting up them movies." and "GOD I WANNA PUNCH U IN THE FACE".
If you can't see the video above, watch it on YouTube.
Second Blog Entry: I will befriend Jacob.
In the second Daxflame video, we are introduced to the Jacob character. Jacob is featured in many of the early Dax vids. In the video description, Dax says that there's "a little bit of a plot twist in the last 6-7 seconds." In the video, Dax ends by saying that "you gotta take a risk sometimes." At the 21 second mark, Dax mentions that Jacob has a girlfriend. Now, some commenters have theorized that Dax is romantically interested in Jacob, but it's clear that Dax knows from the start that Jacob likes girls. So is this "risk" about trying to start a romantic relationship with Jacob, is it about making new friends in general, or is it about the risk of putting out a new show on YouTube?
If you can't see the video above, watch it on YouTube.
Third Video Diary Entry: I blew it!
Dax starts out this third episode calmly enough, but he comes completely unhinged by the end of the film. Is this a very strange comedy or a wierd but true tale of teenage awkwardness?
If you can't see the video above, watch it on YouTube.
Sixteenth video diary entry: The best Friday EVER!!!
Jumping ahead in the series, we'll end this look at the Dax man with a totally strange comedy/mania performance/episode. It's really two videos in one. It starts with Dax pouring Hershey's chocolate syrup on his face and ends with Dax stuffing lots of Orbit gum in his mouth. If you appreciate this kind of comedy, check out the rest of Daxflame's videos. You might want to start with the recent I bit my orthodontist's finger off!, or the one that YouTube recently featured and now has almost a half million views: Video diary entry 32: TAPE FACE!

There's a new very nicely produced and edited movie series on YouTube called "I", by iChannel. Their profile sets the stage for the series:
