YouTube Stars!

Here are three four funny music videos for your viewing pleasure. The first is the brand new parody from #10 Most Subscribed YouTuber, VenetianPrincess. Second is a fan made music vid for a Weird Al tune, and third is a story of misheard lyrics. Laugh Out Loud!

We have been writing about 10th most popular all time YouTubeStar VenetianPrincess since October 2006! She has always made creative and funny videos. In the early days, she did her funny skits. Lately she makes amazing parodies of well known pop songs and pokes fun at celebrities. In her latest vid, VP makes herself up to look like Britney Spears and sings a parody song about Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, a couple who achieved fame after starring in MTV's "The Hills". You'll laugh at the lyrics but not VP's singing voice, which is excellent!




VenetianPrincess has been making great parodies for three years now on YouTube, and it has made her the 10th Most Subscribed YouTuber! But Weird Al Yankovic has been singing parodies of pop songs since the late 70s. You've probably seen the videos for "Eat It" and "Like a Surgeon" at some point in your life. (This video of Al's song "eBay" has over 25 million views and is funny too!) Well, here's a fan made live action video for Al's funny tune, "Hardware Store" from his 2003 album "Poodle Hat." I think it is as good as many others I've seen on MTV and other video TV shows over the years. Check it out!

As part of my BA we have to create a "pop promo/music video". For this I've picked Weird Al's awesome "Hardware Store" After many long nights working on storyboards and anamatics (see my other videos) we finally had a final piece put together. Which I'm very happy to say got a rather good mark of 80.

Update: I should probably point out that 80 is a VERY good mark in UK Universities, whilst it is out of 100, 70 is a 1st which is the best you can get (3rd, 2:2, 2:1, 1) so I got the best, then some.

There are no swears in this song, and yes you do hear "automatic circumciser" which isn't what you think it is. Google for the full lyrics.

You may have seen some of the many "Google Image" based videos for this song. This is a live action "real" version, the only one I know of in existence too. It was created entirely from scratch, filmed, edited and post production by myself, Dave Hartly & Christian Allan. Enjoy what we've created, I hope you like it.

I am a big fan of Nightwish! Nightwish are a symphonic powergothic metal band from Finland, formed in 1996. Nightwish is Finland's most successful band with more than 5 million sold albums worldwide. Their music reminds one of Iron Maiden and similar 80s metal acts, but what sets them apart is their female singer Tarja Turunen who is classicly trained and has an operatic voice. (Since May 2006, Anette_Olzon sings for Nightwish.)

In 19 May, 2000, Nightwish released their third studio album Wishmaster which debuted at #1 on the Finnish album charts, and following three weeks at number one, was certified gold in Finland. The song "Wishmaster" is one of Nightwish's greatest hits. Since Nightwish is a Finnish band and the singer has a classical opera vocal style, it is often difficult to make out the words to this popular song. Kewen (I'm Erin, I'm from London and I'm a GIRL... I make films and clothes...) made this humorous attempt at deciphering the lyrics; watch and enjoy this vid which today has 8,542,318 views!

So do you like the new colors? That Orange theme was getting old! Then again, I should have kept it until Halloween was over. Too late, Blue is in and Orange is out.

Well, tomorrow is Halloween. I hope you're ready. What are you going to be? What candy are you giving out? Here's a few videos to celebrate this frightful holiday!

But first, The News!

What happened to the OfficialTwilightFilm channel??? According to YouTube, "This account is SUSPENDED!" Is this some Halloween trick or some sort of publicity stunt for the upcoming New Moon movie? This was the official channel for Summit Entertainment - worldwide theatrical motion picture development, financing, production and distribution studio. They are producing the Twilight Saga movies. There's no news of this on their website. This just happened today. Eventually, there should be news of what happened. Check here on the Twilight News Feed.


What are you doing AFTER Halloween? How about writing a novel? That's what HayleyGHoover is doing this November, which is National Novel Writing Month. The goal is to write a 50,000 word novel in one month, and she's done it twice already! Watch the vid and see if you have what it takes to meet this creative challenge.


Did you see the streaming Live U2 concert on YouTube last weekend? I did, and it was pretty cool! According to this news story, "YouTube's webcast of a U2 concert was watched by nearly 10 million people, the video site's largest streaming event ever... The full 2 1/2-hour concert is available on YouTube. The rebroadcast video has been watched by more than 1.1 million viewers."


Nadine Sykora (Naders07) is spending today, her Birthday, at a fundraising event for animals. Click the pic at the left to watch the video for more info, including links. Thanks to Nadine for promoting the SPCA and the work they do to rescue animals, and Happy Birthday!


Okay, now let's watch some Halloween Videos!


Everyone knows that VenetianPrincess is YouTube's Halloween Queen! She loves this holiday and transforms her house with elaborate decorations every year. You can see some of her scary props in this video, as well as her dog in a bumblebee outfit! VP asks in the video, "What are you going to be for Halloween?" See the answers in the comments and video responses, and add your own reply!





Raz0rsex does a Public Service Anouncement to educate the candy giving public on how to select the proper Halloween treat. "Quality over Quantity," she says! What's the worst thing you ever got for Halloween? What's your favorite candy bar? Lately, mine is Twix with Snickers a close second. I'm giving out Twix this year. I have more than enough, which means I get plenty of leftovers!





OlgaKay has made a mini Horror Movie for Halloween! Watch as Olga nearly dies in a T-bone car crash, then gets her throat slashed, yikes! But fear not, Olga gets revenge using her Martial Arts skills. Go Olga! Be sure to answer the question she poses at the end of the show - How would you like to die in a Horror Movie?





You may have thought that vampires only think about getting their next blood fix. But apparently, some have a love of Flute playing! NinaFlute, A.k.a. Vampina, gives us a flute lesson for fanged ones. Nina always looks good, but this Goth get-up really seems to suit her! Enjoy!





Finally, watch what happens when two doggies make their own Halloween costumes and head out for some Trick or Treating Fun! Be safe this Halloween. Have fun, don't be too mean with your pranks, and be sure not to eat all your candy in one day!

Our friend VenetianPrincess is in a battle with Miley Cyrus for the Number One Most Subscribed Female of All Time on YouTube. As we see in this week's Top 100 Weekly Chart, Miley's MileyMandy channel is at number 10 Most Subscribers of All Time, and VenetianPrincess is right behind at number 11. BUT VenetianPrincess gained 12,239 new subscribers last week while Miley only added 3,129. So Miley's lead is shrinking!



VenetianPrincess, Jodie Rivera in real life, asked me to create a widget to keep track of her progress in her quest to be the Most Subscribed Female of All Time on YouTube. If you are under 18, you've probably seen these four videos already.
This time, YouTubeStars presents four vids that the kids find very very funny! Each has millions of views, so it's obvious that people keep watching these and passing them around among their friends. Have a look, even if you're not a teenager anymore, and see if you find yourself laughing at these Comedies For Kids!

The kids of JKLproduction have created a character named Fred. Fred, a 6-year-old with a mom who has less than perfect parenting skills, is often out of control. Things get broken as his temper flares. In this video, Fred tells us about his Halloween experiences. If you like Fred, he's made his own channel! (Someone must love Fred - several of the Fred vids have over 4 million views!) Go subscribe to the new Fred channel!




Heyyy, Charlie! Everyone must have seen Charlie The Unicorn by now - it has over 22 Million views! Sarcastic Charlie meets the silly red and blue unicorns and they journey to Candy Mountain. Charlie doesn't think there IS such a place - "Shun the non-believer!" Don't go in the cave, Charlie!




Nigahiga is the Number Three Most Subscribed YouTube Channel, according to the Top 100 Weekly Chart. These two Oriental young men have several "How to be" videos that each have millions of views. Watch this one and learn How to be Gangster, their most popular vid with almost 10 Million views!




Smosh is another two-man videomaking team. They have been Number One Most Subscribed for many months, moving into that spot when LonelyGirl15 cooled off. With so many subscribers (over 340 Thosand!), each of their videos quickly gets over a million views. In this silly skit, Boxman gets a girlfriend. What will happen? "Humans and boxes don't intertwine!" Hmmm, is it the Montigues and Capulets all over again? Watch and see - almost 4 million people have so far!

Here's four interesting videos from four YouTube guys. We'll see two music videos - one is a cover of a classic Sinatra song and the other is an original song about YouTube Stars! Then we'll hear from two of the "wise men" of YouTube as they talk about violence and morality in the online age.

Marina - HotForWords (my new friend, see this post) - was on The O'Reilly Factor with Bill O'Reilly last Monday night! They talked about the origin of five words that Bill likes to use on his show. I was very happy to hear him mention how many Total Video Views Marina has received on YouTube! He got that data from our Total Video Views widget, which appears front and center on the www.HotForWords.com website. Excellent appearance, Marina! And thanks, Bill O'Reilly for indirectly promoting our Total Video Views widget!

Did you notice that last week, our friend VenetianPrincess debuted at number 56 on the Top 100 Weekly Chart? WOW, that's amazing! Jodie went from just over 27 thousand subscribers on 4/6 to over 43 thousand on 4/13! (See her chart, here) She has been getting good press coverage in newspapers and on TV, and her latest parody vid about Hillary Clinton - Hillary, Be My Best Friend - has over 800 thousand views in its first 10 days. Congrats on your success, Jodie!

Smooth crooner Daniel Bonaire performs a great cover of a song originally done by Frank Sinatra. Daniel sings the song to his favorite female YouTubeStars. He includes pics of the ladies in his video. I'll be sure to mention some of them and their videos in future posts here on YouTubeStars! If you enjoy this song by Daniel, go watch his other music videos. He has 11 so far and they're all very good!




YouTube comedian nerimon has made a parody music video with his own lyrics sung to the "Rock Star" melody from Nickleback. He sings, I'll be a YouTubeStar!" Well, now he is an official YouTubeStar, he's in our blog. :) Check out this popular video with almost 40 thousand views in its first week and a half.




PeriUrban has replied to another video that was about the Florida teens who jumped one of their teen girl friends, on his urbanblog channel. His point is that every generation thinks the younger generation is behaving badly compared to how their own generation used to be. But that's not true, and we shouldn't look back - Peri believes we should act charitably while working to create a better future. Peri and friends are working on a new site where people can express themselves in a responsible way. Let's see what they come up with!




Tom, tlg847, responded to the same video that Peri responded to. His thought is that our perspective is limited, we only see certain things at certain times. We don't realize that the world is actually getting more civilized over time. Despite the shocking headlines we see everyday, we are actually living in the safest most civilized moment in history. He references a talk by the brilliant Harvard Evolutionary Psycologist Steven Pinker, watch that video too!

It's Super Tuesday! Who will be the Democrat candidate? Who will be the Republican candidate? I don't know! If you're looking for a political blog, this isn't it. If you're looking for interesting and entertaining videomakers and their videos, this is the place to find them! We've been bringing you recommendations on YouTubers and YouTube videos since June 2006. We have over 100 posts on this blog. We've talked about almost 200 videomakers. We've mentioned over 300 videos. So what's up with YouTube? Is the video sharing service still the hottest thing online? Is it still gaining new users/viewers? According to this January 21st TV Week story, YouTube's traffic decreased for 2 weeks in a row in January. Now, this February 4th TV Week article reports this about YouTube, "For the week ending Jan. 27, the world’s biggest video site drew 30.7 million unique visitors, about on par with the week before..." It appears that the number of people visiting YouTube has plateaued. But if we look at the number of subscribers for the Top 100 Most Subscribed YouTube Channels, we can see that the number of subscribers keeps growing for almost all channels on the chart. How can this be? If the number of visitors is not increasing, then either the visitors who do visit YouTube include many who are signing up and subscribing to channels for the first time, or current YouTube members are subscribing to more and more channels over time. I know I fall into the second category. I didn't subscribe to many channels for the first several months of my YouTube life. But now, 18 months into my membership, I subscribe to 366 channels!

Is there a better site to share videos on? Well, last year at this time, everyone was singing the praises of LiveVideo. It seemed that everything that didn't work on YouTube worked very well on LiveVideo - and their videos were in stereo, an improvement over YouTube's mono sound. Many YouTubers created an account on LiveVideo and many still post videos to both sites. LiveVideo even has some very entertaining channels that are not on YouTube, such as blonde teen vlogger Alex and the one and only Captain James T. Kirk (now Denny Crane), William Shatner. But YouTube has fixed some of its problems and it still has a much larger community than any other video site. Even so, it is a very good idea to sign up with LiveVideo! Don't put all your video eggs in one basket, show your videos on YouTube AND LiveVideo. Please click on the "Less Tube. What's up with Renetto? Is he teaming up with partners to create a better YouTube? Check out his long and emotional half-hour video, "Take a wild guess who I TAGGED... " and also his vid on organizing the revolt. Let's see where this goes!

She is a young country singer who became famous from her Yodeling skills and is now becoming a YouTubeStar by posting country covers of pop tunes. VenetianPrincess recently won Samsung's national talent search, the Jukebox Hero contest. She was awarded $10,000 in prizes of her choice; congrats Jodie!!! Randrigh is back too! I love Roxy's music and her little stories that often preceed her singing. Roxy has been having tough times in Japan and that has led to some powerful new original songs. In her own words,

I was thinking about how when people find something beautiful, like a flower, they feel the need to take it and make it their own, tearing it away from its home and putting it in a glass vase (killing it in the process) admiring it until it dies and then having to throw it out...what a tragic waste of beautiful life!

I figure if we really loved something we would simply let it be, rather than wanting to have it and killing it in the process...
so I guess this song is about learning to admire things that we find beautiful from a distance rather than rushing to possess it and killing it in the process... it's also my way of saying that life, in any shape or form, is too precious to let it go to waste, especially for selfish reasons...

TiffanyJoAllen is a rising YouTubeStar! As I mentioned above, she now has almost 9 thousand subscribers. Everyone loves her country versions of pop songs. But right now, lets watch Tiffany talk about a scary health issue she recently had to endure, due to her braces! Tiffany says,

Braces can make you very sick. Share this with your friends. Not being able to breathe is very scary and can be life threatening. I went
to so many doctors and had so much testing. I hope by telling my story I might save even one person from having to live this nightmare. Thankfully,I am well now since mine were removed. If you have questions please feel free to ask. I can share my experience but ultimately you will need to ask your doctor.

This time, we'll see a crazy Q & A video, a thoughtfully posed query with many responses, a celebrity parody and a vlog that recaps recent activity by a YouTubeStar. We're reported on Julie, Molly, Jodie and Paul before, but they continue to make excellent videos, so let's see what's new!

YouTube continues to attract viewers. Have a look at the Top 100 Chart on any given week and you'll see that almost all the YouTubers on the chart have gained subscribers over the previous week. People from all over the world (except for maybe Thailand and Turkey) continue to come to YouTube to watch music videos, laugh at crazy antics, or connect with others in this new face-driven medium. Chris Crocker is creating publicity for YouTube lately with his "Leave Britney Alone" video, which got him on the Jimmy Kimmel show and now has over 9 Million Views! Chris moved up 6 spots on the chart this week, to the number 15 spot by gaining over 11 Thousand new subscribers. I think that the YouTube newbies will find many other talented and entertaining people to watch, if they know where to look. I would invite them to subscribe to this blog (use the box in the left column) so they can be made aware of some excellent videomakers! UndiscoveredJulie is one of the best improv skitmakers on YouTube. Her videos are crazy but very entertaining! In a recent video, she asked viewers to submit questions that she would answer in a future video. I submitted a question and Julie answered it in this video. Thanks, Julie! I believe that one reason for YouTube's popularity is the ease with which one can communicate with interesting people from all around the world. Mememolly has made a bunch of interesting videos - music videos, response videos and vlogs. In this film, she poses a thought provoking question, "Are you anyone's favorite person?" This struck a chord with YouTubers and they replied with almost 900 comments and over 70 response videos. Read more about Molly, here.

Brangelina Parody- "Adopt Me Too" Music Video

VenetianPrincess makes a music video! She sings of her desire to be adopted by Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. The song is cute; the video is funny and well edited. VP (Jodie) has a wide range of talents, as can be seen in her popular Princess videos and the amazing XBox mini-movie. Now she can add this parody (as well as her Giuliani "Crush" parody) to her list of hits! Read more about Jodie here.

Chris Crocker's plan to post his Suicide Video on YouTube

Renetto is undeniably a YouTubeStar. He has consistently been on in the Top 40 and has seen steady subscriber growth over the last year. Some of his films are over the top crazy, while others provide analysis and spark discussion about the YouTube community. In this rather long movie, Paul recaps some of what he has been talking about in recent vids and comments on the "What the Buck" and Chris Crocker recent runs at fame. If this is your first time here, welcome to YouTubeStars -- one of the best and longest running blogs about YouTube videos and videomakers. Usually KennyWrites the posts here, but one time Urgelt wrote a guest post. Today, Celestialsam writes about three videos she has enjoyed.

But first, the news. VenetianPrincess has started an interactive period-style murder mystery video series. She sets up the story in her video and wants other videomakers to get involved. I think this sounds like a lot of fun! Check out the first video and see what YOU can do to continue the story.

The Zimmers, that geriatric singing group from the UK that includes Geriatric1927, is releasing its first song on Monday May 28th. As you may know by now, the song is The Who's anthem, "My Generation". You can see the video for the song on our YouTube Top 100 Weekly Chart.
