YouTube Stars!

Our dear friend and popular guest blogger, the lovely CelestialSam (picture above) has written another article for YouTubeStars! This time, Sam writes about Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, a delightful band that she says will bring a smile to your face.

Below, we present Sam's thoughts about Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, along with a Live performance video...

But first, The News!

This week's Featured Video on our Top 100 and Top 200 Charts is a slideshow music video for a really nice song that is inspired by Taylor Swift! Melanie Tang (MelLovesTibby) sang this song which was written by her friend Izzie Wong, who also played the guitar on it and also contributed vocals. Its a very sweet song and you should watch the slideshow video with just two pics so you can concentrate on the music! The video is to the left, click on it!

We love Melanie's singing voice! She has uploaded 15 videos so far and has song covers of songs by The Killers, Dixie Chicks, Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, Linkin Park, Ke$ha and more. You will enjoy hearing Melanie sing; check out some of her other videos!

We have a NEW Featured Video every week on our YouTube Top 100 Chart. If you missed any of our Previously Featured Videos, you can still watch them here.

Check out our Top 100 and Top 200 Charts of the Most Subscribed YouTube Channels every week!

Congratulations to Michelle Waugh - she was recently on TV on the "Good Day Sacramento" show! We love Michelle's singing and guitar skills - we wrote about her twice before. It's great to see Michelle getting this kind of exposure. We expect more great things in her future!

Michelle has 96 videos on her channel and you will enjoy listening to her covers and her nice originals, which she has uploaded over the last two years. Check out her videos!

Now, here is CelestialSam's article about Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros!

After watching, "Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros - Home (live @ kcrw),"

I defy you not to dance or crack a smile!

Live music never sounded so good. "Home" is a solid love song by Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros. Alex Ebert and Jade Castrinos--the vocals--bring such positive energy, youthful innocence and playful childishness to their soulful folk rock. Their rapturous elation is beautiful and refreshing, the perfect complement to a warm summer's day.

In keeping with the contagious childlike mindset, Alex once said, "It's not about posturing or performing or posing or manicuring my performance," in an interview with Candace Achenbach of MF Magazine. He also cites, as an inspiration, the unforgettable "Sasquatch man" who famously started a dance party back in 2009, proving himself unstoppable by gyrating, shaking and capering alone on a vacant hillside plot of grass until a trickle of followers turned into a flood!

"Sasquatch music festival 2009 - Guy starts dance party"

As you can see, the Sasquatch man knows the power of no inhibition, a freedom from self-censorship and its impact on others.

This summer, I challenge you to aim for a star and land on the moon. Love without fear. Act and speak with conviction and sincerity. And if you find yourself dancing alone, keep dancing. Chances are they're watching, and waiting to be freed too.

CelestialSam has made many artful and entertaining videos over the years, including "Darkness on Her Cell Wall" and "Je ne veux pas travailler...". Recently, Sam has been vlogging. Enjoy "How I broke my clavicle..."

Welcome to YouTubeStars where we write about interesting videomakers and their videos. This time, we have 4 music videos for you. Two of the four are covers of Paperweight by Joshua Radin. The other two videos are original tunes. All are by talented YouTube musicians.

Have you visited our YouTube Top 100 - A Weekly Chart of the 100 Most Subscribed YouTube Members, and our new Top 200 Weekly Chart, which has the top 200 Most Subscribed channels on YouTube? Each week we feature a video on the charts. This week's video is Michelle Waugh's cover of Paperweight, which we are also presenting here, below. Check out the Featured Video on our Top 100 and Top 200 Charts every week!

Featured Videos on our Weekly Charts get a few thousand views. The numbers do not appear on the videos on YouTube anymore like they once did. But our Google Analytics account shows that the Featured Video page on our charts get between 1500 and 2000 pageviews every week.

Here's something new! We have our own URL Shortening Service. http://TwHub.com serves short URLs that are needed on Twitter so links don't use up too many of the 140 characters Twitter allows. Links like http://TwHub.com/FV and http://TwHub.com/200 are shortened URLs to our Featured Video and Top 200 Chart. Here is a list of all URLs we shorten.

We will be watching four Music Videos by four talented women today...

But first, The News!

Tiffany Jo Allen gave us great news this week. She made it to the next round of the Jive Records / Sony Music Six Flags contest. Tiffany will be performing at the Six Flags Fiesta Texas park in San Antonio this Wednesday, August 18th, between 4:30 and 5 PM. Go see her if you can! Congrats on your success, Tiffany Jo!

Eveliiine gave us good news too. She is in the finals of the Joepie Sonic Angel contest and needs your votes between now and the 21st of August. Watch the video and go here to vote. Congrats on making it to the finals, Eveline!

11 year old Emily Brooke is in the Colgate Country Showdown songwriter's contest and has entered her excellent original song "Wild & Free." Click the pic to watch her play it at Tootsie's in Nashville. The contest ends August 31st. Click here to vote for Emily; I did! Good luck, Emily!

Funnyman Michael Boyce of YouTraxTVNews is back with another parody of the News. He makes fun of President Obama, Miley Cyrus, Dolly Parton, Steven Slater, Charlie Rangel, Bill Clinton, Chelsea Clinton's wedding, Lindsay Lohan, Sarah Palin, Mel Gibson, Hugh Hefner, the Hollywood Sign, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Betty White. He also has a guest star, TheHandyGoddess. Funny stuff!

Thanks for reading our news items! Now, as a reward, here's a video of a Corgi dog taking a leap off a pier like Superman and doing a belly flop. It has over a million views in its first week online. Click the pic and enjoy!

Now, watch our four Music Videos!

Lauren Goodsmith just put up a wonderful music video for a song called "Never Enough." Lauren is 17 and lives in the UK. She does an awesome job singing and playing the guitar in this ballad, beautifully filmed by her Dad Martin. This haunting song will be stuck in your head; it's great! Check it out!

Michelle Waugh is a talented 15 year old singer / songwriter who lives in California. She has a great voice and is also good at playing the guitar. Recently, she really improved the sound of her music videos. Watch her cover of Paperweight by Joshua Radin. You'll love it! Also watch her great original song "When You Smile" here.

While watching Michelle's cover of Paperweight, I saw this video's thumbnail in the Suggestions column. I clicked and I'm glad I did. This is Melanie on the mellonbaby80 channel doing a very different version of Paperweight by Joshua Radin. She is a bit quieter than Michelle, but Melanie adds a lot of expressiveness which makes this a joy to watch. I've watched it four times already!

Katie on the acoustickatie24 channel is out with a new original song. This one is "about verbally abusive relationships and finally taking back your voice and attaining the strength to walk away." It's been just over a year since her last original song "Not Enough" came out. That one now has well over a million views! Katie has a great voice that sounds as good in the loud parts as it does in the soft ones. She also plays the guitar very well. Enjoy her latest original tune!

Four unrelated videos for you all to view. Two from old time YouTubers and two from newer members...

Michelle Waugh is a talented 15 year old singer / songwriter. She sings and plays guitar in almost 50 uploaded videos. Most are covers but she also has some great originals. Listen to this cool song and also watch the excellent one I chose as this week's Featured Video over at our YouTube Top 100 Weekly Chart.

Kelsey Robinson is 17 years old and she loves music. She is a very good singer who makes music videos along with the occasional vlog like this one that I really enjoyed. She even made a very nice short comedy sketch about an incident in her math class. Also watch Kelsey's latest video from 2/25/2010 where she sings and plays piano on her nice original song called "Tanner", which starts at 1:34 after Kelsey catches us up on what she's been doing.

Paul Robinett has been uploading videos to his Renetto channel for 4 years as of March 5th. We have written about his insightful and entertaining videos many times over the years. Paul even joined up with vlogger Tom (tlg847) to make their own video site for vloggers called VloggerHeads. Check it out, its a thriving community that has been around since the summer of 2008. I wrote about its early days, here. Watch this short thought provoking blog about life and what drives us.

When I first came to YouTube 5 years ago, I was looking for Goth videos. I found two homemade videos that I liked (this one and this one) and then I started coming back to YouTube regularly. I soon found LittleLoca who was among the Most Subscribed at the time. We all later found out that this was a character played by Stevie Ryan. Stevie also created the "TheRealParis" channel and that is where this fun Goth music video is posted. Enjoy!
