YouTube Stars!

Here are 4 NON-music videos that were just uploaded to YouTube this month, April 2010. I tend to mention a lot of music videos here, so this time I'll leave the music genre and show you a vlogger, an artist, an uncomfortable yet funny human and a non-supine feline.

But first, The News!

I like many kinds of music, including Goth. Sadly, this week we lost the frontman singer for the legendary Goth band, Type O Negatvie, Peter Steele. Read an MTV news story here, and then watch Black Number 1 by clicking the pic at the left. RIP Peter!

In happier music news, YouTube featured 4 music videos last week as part of their "Musicians Wanted" program and one was an original song by acoustickatie24. Katie posted the song last summer and it did okay, getting several thousand views. Thanks to being featured, it now has 1.2 Million views! Congrats, Katie! Click the pic to see this nice guitar ballad.

Our Welsh friend Angharad John, known here as Darahgna, is back after a long absence to tell us about her participation in a great event, the Race for Life, which raises money for Cancer research. Donate if you can; I did! Click the pic for details and see this video for an update on Angharad's fundraising. Also watch this video by KelseyOfficial about another cause called "A Day Without Shoes" - check it out too!

Thanks to everyone who regularly visits our YouTube Top 100 Weekly Chart! Now we expanded it into a Top 200 Chart. You'll be able to see who fell off the bottom of the Top 100 and who is climbing their way up to soon debut on the Top 100. Check it out; click the pic. You'll see that ShaneDawsonTV moved up to #3 while Smosh slipped to #4. Realannoyingorange is up 2 to #34. Daneboe is up 5 to #53. Hotforwords dropped 3 spots to #58 but she did hit 300 Million Total Video Views this week, congrats Marina! New on the chart this week is TheFineBros at #97 - and that sexy Minxy punk rock woman who speaks Japanese and wears a cat ears headband, MissHannahMinx at #193. Click her pic to watch "How To Make Minxy Choices" - its cute and funny!

Okay, now let's watch some NON-Music Videos!

Hayley G Hoover has always been one of the best vloggers on YouTube. Lately, Hayley has morphed from a quicky teen to a young lady aglow with love for her boyfriend and fellow YouTuber, Mike Lombardo ("Your soon-to-be favorite geeky piano rocker"). The high quality vlogs continue to flow almost as impressively as the words appealingly appear on Hayley's blog. If you watch Hayley, you're only getting half the insight and entertainment. You simply must also read her blog! This creative young lady is wonderful in front of the camera but she really shines behind a quill; I will emplore you one more time, read her blog, now! Or at least after you watch this satirical guide to How To Be a Great YouTuber!

You enjoy paintings with your eyes, yes? Generally true, but watch artist Alice from AlicesPalette and experience her psychedelic art with all your senses! The colors are groovy and remind me of a 60s light show. The textures of her thick brush strokes invite you to reach out and feel the paint, as thick and thin layers lie one upon another, or flow together and apart. Rich shades of color evoke tastes and fragrances of fresh fruit, the kind of mouth watering images used by produce marketers in the Spring. The orchestrated soundtrack Alice chose is fanciful and fits the visuals, especially in the middle as the pace becomes frantic. But being a huge 60s music fan, if I was the sound engineer on this project, I may have been inclined to use something like "Journey to the Center of the Mind" as backing track. But that's just me. Watch this wash of chromaticity, then see the other 5 videos by talented artist AlicesPalette.

Goofy, uncomfortable and hilarious! Exactly what one would expect from a motion picture conceived of, produced, directed and starring YouTubeStar DaxFlame. DaxFlame heads out "Wheast" to capture an outlaw with a partner when tragedy strikes. "Oh my Gosh! Killed him. I was just beginning to like you, partner!" But Dax struggles on, revealing that "Some men are measured by the size of their heart, others by size of their fist. I am of the latter group!" You crack me up, Mister Patrello!

I happen to like cats; I think they're cool. They really don't need you, unless they're hungry. Then they'll annoy the heck out of you in the middle of the night until you get up and add kibbles to their bowl. If they could stand upright like us humans, they might be able to use their front legs and fore paws to open the bag and pour out their own food. Check out this feline, I bet HE could do that!

Highest Rated Comment: fatherprime - some cats seem to think they are human. i bet he plays GTA also. 22 Thumbs UP.

It's Super Tuesday! Who will be the Democrat candidate? Who will be the Republican candidate? I don't know! If you're looking for a political blog, this isn't it. If you're looking for interesting and entertaining videomakers and their videos, this is the place to find them! We've been bringing you recommendations on YouTubers and YouTube videos since June 2006. We have over 100 posts on this blog. We've talked about almost 200 videomakers. We've mentioned over 300 videos. Please Subscribe to Email Updates of this blog (Use the box on the left below the Links) so you can stay up to date with YouTube News and the latest and greatest YouTubeStars!

So what's up with YouTube? Is the video sharing service still the hottest thing online? Is it still gaining new users/viewers? According to this January 21st TV Week story, YouTube's traffic decreased for 2 weeks in a row in January. Now, this February 4th TV Week article reports this about YouTube, "For the week ending Jan. 27, the world’s biggest video site drew 30.7 million unique visitors, about on par with the week before..." It appears that the number of people visiting YouTube has plateaued. But if we look at the number of subscribers for the Top 100 Most Subscribed YouTube Channels, we can see that the number of subscribers keeps growing for almost all channels on the chart. How can this be? If the number of visitors is not increasing, then either the visitors who do visit YouTube include many who are signing up and subscribing to channels for the first time, or current YouTube members are subscribing to more and more channels over time. I know I fall into the second category. I didn't subscribe to many channels for the first several months of my YouTube life. But now, 18 months into my membership, I subscribe to 366 channels!

Is there a better site to share videos on? Well, last year at this time, everyone was singing the praises of LiveVideo. It seemed that everything that didn't work on YouTube worked very well on LiveVideo - and their videos were in stereo, an improvement over YouTube's mono sound. Many YouTubers created an account on LiveVideo and many still post videos to both sites. LiveVideo even has some very entertaining channels that are not on YouTube, such as blonde teen vlogger Alex and the one and only Captain James T. Kirk (now Denny Crane), William Shatner. But YouTube has fixed some of its problems and it still has a much larger community than any other video site. Even so, it is a very good idea to sign up with LiveVideo! Don't put all your video eggs in one basket, show your videos on YouTube AND LiveVideo. Please click on the "Less Tube. More You!" ad at the top of our lefthand column on this page to check out LiveVideo. Get your account there TODAY!

What's up with Renetto? Is he teaming up with partners to create a better YouTube? Check out his long and emotional half-hour video, "Take a wild guess who I TAGGED... " and also his vid on organizing the revolt. Let's see where this goes!

In the meantime, several YouTubers are doing very well for themselves! We've talked about TiffanyJoAllen here several times. She is a young country singer who became famous from her Yodeling skills and is now becoming a YouTubeStar by posting country covers of pop tunes. Here's a chart of her subscriber numbers, as recorded by our FREE YTStats service:

Tiffany recently did a very interesting non-musical video about the little known dangers of braces. We'll see that video further on in this post.

VenetianPrincess recently won Samsung's national talent search, the Jukebox Hero contest. She was awarded $10,000 in prizes of her choice; congrats Jodie!!! Also, her music video will be played on the Samsung cell phone commercial, and she will be going on a televised promotional tour for Samsung across the country! Read more about the contest, here. Here is VP herself, talking about this news in a video:

Madeline, the How To Girl, has been on the Rachael Ray show! She's also been on a Wisconsin NBC affiliate's news show. Watch Madeline's behind-the-scenes video as she is filmed on the NBC show along with a Rachael Ray clip, here:

Now, here are 4 NEW videos by 4 talented YouTube ladies that we've talked about here before. Watch and enjoy!

UndiscoveredJulie had not made a video for 2 months and she was sorely missed! Now she's back to answer questions, make funny faces and sing a song. Julie always makes great vids with improv'ed sketches, cool accents and sweet songs. Subscribe to UndiscoveredJulie now!

Randrigh is back too! I love Roxy's music and her little stories that often preceed her singing. Roxy has been having tough times in Japan and that has led to some powerful new original songs. In her own words,

I was thinking about how when people find something beautiful, like a flower, they feel the need to take it and make it their own, tearing it away from its home and putting it in a glass vase (killing it in the process) admiring it until it dies and then having to throw it out...what a tragic waste of beautiful life!

I figure if we really loved something we would simply let it be, rather than wanting to have it and killing it in the process...
so I guess this song is about learning to admire things that we find beautiful from a distance rather than rushing to possess it and killing it in the process... it's also my way of saying that life, in any shape or form, is too precious to let it go to waste, especially for selfish reasons...

Subscribe to randrigh now!

TiffanyJoAllen is a rising YouTubeStar! As I mentioned above, she now has almost 9 thousand subscribers. Everyone loves her country versions of pop songs. But right now, lets watch Tiffany talk about a scary health issue she recently had to endure, due to her braces! Tiffany says,

Braces can make you very sick. Share this with your friends. Not being able to breathe is very scary and can be life threatening. I went
to so many doctors and had so much testing. I hope by telling my story I might save even one person from having to live this nightmare. Thankfully,I am well now since mine were removed. If you have questions please feel free to ask. I can share my experience but ultimately you will need to ask your doctor.

Subscribe to TiffanyJoAllen now!

We've been writing about Daraghna since she was "just little." Angharad had been away too; it had been 7 months since her last video, way toooo long! She's back with her version of Amy Winehouse's "Rehab." Enjoy her unique and stylish interpretation of this cool song, then watch some of her other videos. Subscribe to Darahgna now!

One week to Christmas, are you ready??? Take a few minutes out of your hectic day and watch some YouTube Christmas videos! They are sure to put a smile on your face. :)

First, let's have a look at this week's Most Subscribed Chart. In positions 1 through 20, JamesNintendo Nerd, WhatTheBuckShow, AshleyTisdale (Ashley Tisdale is an actress from Disney's Nigh School Musical), and DaxFlame have all moved up one spot. WilliamSled, LinkinParkTV (videos by Linkin Park rock band), and GayGod all fell back one spot.

Big movers this week include SonyBMG, up 5 to number 60, and MondoMedia, up 6 to number 53. New to the chart this week are comic PatCondell at the number 89 spot, and UK vlogger charlieissocoollike debuting at number 98. LonelyGirl15, long at the number one spot, hangs on to the number 4 position even after months of slight drops in subscribers each week. Have a look at LonelyGirl15's Subscriber History. With a negative trend like that, LG15 will soon trade places with HappySlip or maybe even KevJumba or MiaARose who all continue to add subscribers steadily.

Now, on to the Christmas videos! We'll see two singing videos and two dancing videos by some of the nicest ladies on YouTube! Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!

Angelica says, "I went up in the mountains in Romania to record this music video with a good friend of mine...and we had a lot of fun making it... " Enjoy the heavenly singing of this talented woman as you are treated to views of wonderful Winter scenery.

15-year-old sweetie Tiffany Jo Allen does a fun and adorable cover of an old Christmas country tune! Have you subscribed to Tiffany Jo yet? I told you recently about superdancer artemisbell. Diana usually doesn't allow embedding of her vids but this time, she did! Check out the zest and energy she sends out in this fun clip!

Here's one of my all-time favorite YouTubers, Daragna, dancing and lipsynching to "Santa Baby!" 17-year-old Welsh YouTubeStar Angharad John uploaded this video last Christmas. It's still one of my favorite videos!

Here are three entertaining videos by three young women. Esmee sings with Justin Timberlake, Angharad acts all the roles in a skit from a movie that you'll recognize, and Lori interviews people in the street about Happiness.

me singing "what goes around" Justin Timberlake

Last time, I told you about YouTubeStar YsabellaBrave being signed to a recording contract. This time, I report on YouTube sensation EsmeeDenters. Esmee is an 18-year-old woman who lives in a small town in the Netherlands and is one of the most popular videomakers on YouTube. She just moved into the number 8 spot tonight on the YouTube Top 100 Weekly Chart. Last week, it was announced on Esmee's website that she has been signed to Justin Timberlake's just created record label, Tennman Records. In this video, we hear and Esmee sing a Timberlake cover from her upcoming album. This video is less than 2 weeks old and already has over 3 Million Views!

Cell Block Tango

I've been writing about the enjoyable videos from Darahgna (Angharad John) since I first began to write about YouTube over one year ago. The second video I watched on YT was her "Cooking with your Favourite Goth" film. From that time on, I have found her movies to be consistantly charming and entertaining. Now, Angharad has just released her longest and most elaborate video yet - a lipsync of the Cell Block Tango from the movie "Chicago," in which she acts out all of the parts! Each woman in the scene has a different personality and Angharad acts their roles impressively well, even changing costumes as she "sings" each character's lines. Watch and enjoy, and be sure to watch her other videos and new Vlog channel too!

Pursuit of Happiness

What is Happiness, anyway? Here's theresident out on the streets of New York asking people this very question. The answers are thought-provoking and occasionally funny. Theresident is Lori Harfenist, who has been producing, hosting, editing, and running “The Resident,” which has aired as a half-hour show on cable access in New York, LA, and Chicago. Visit her website for more information on the show. Lori has posted over 80 videos in the last year. Go watch some of the others, too - they are very good!

Here are a few videos that related by the tag News or New. Either they provide news or showcase a new face on YouTube. So here's some of what's new on YouTube:

Pure Madness

Here's some interesting NEWS! TheHill88, from Australia, is visiting Boh3m3, in Alabama. Caitlin and Ben sure look happy! Is it just two YouTube friends meeting up for a friendly visit? Watch all the way to the end and you'll have your answer!

Introduction

I watched some of those San Fran Gathering videos and saw an interesting New face that I did not recognize. After a little research, I found out that the attractive woman I saw makes videos under the name of theslyestfox. Callianne is 23 and lives in Canada. She has been making videos since she was 14. Watch her intro video and then check out the rest of her work!

Vlog 2
The always charming and entertaining Angharad John from Wales, a.k.a. Darahgna, is now doing video blogs under the screen name of AngylionAngharad. This is the second one she did (first one is here), and it contains the News that she is taking a one month hiatus from the internet. All of her fans are missing her already!

Kenny The Snowman ... Down-under
Speaking of Angharad's fans, here is the first video from IgnatiusJones, a 49 year old New Zealander. He tries to copy Angharad by making his own snowman named Kenny (for me!). But the weather isn't quite the same down there as it is up in the Northern hemisphere. Watch what happens! Welcome to YouTube, my New friend. =D

It's cold outside!!! This is a good time to stay indoors. While you're inside, have a look at these YouTube videos about Winter Fun or Winter events. =D

Kenny the Snowman
Kenny? Kenny who? My name (pen name) is Kenny... Is this... about... me??? Just like Carly Simon sang in her 70s hit, "You're so vain", when I saw this video appear in My Subscriptions list, I thought that maybe this video was about me. "I bet you think this song is about you, don't you, don't you?" You can imagine my delight when I discovered that, indeed, this video is about me!!! Okay, well, not about me really, LOL. The always charming, creative and entertaining YouTube videomaker, Angharad a.k.a Darahgna (more here, here and here) made a delightful snowy fun film about her creation of a snowman... and she named it Kenny, after me! Watch and see!

A Fairytale YouTube Valentine Story
What's coming up this Wednesday? Yes, it's February 14th, Valentine's Day! We began the season of Love on Janueary 25th with Saint Dwynwen's Day and now it's almost time for the big one for lovers, Valentine's Day. You dare not forget this one, guys! Here's an entertaining fairytale told by several of the ladies of YouTube. You don't want to miss this video, brought to you by xgobobeanx, that popular New Yorker YouTuber also known as Jill, with a guest cast of many YouTube's loveliest women, including my favorite, Karen (Spricket24)!

YouTube GATHERING - UPDATE SF
Mister Safety, also known as Cory on the smpfilms YouTube channel has been working hard to coordinate this YouTube member event. This gathering, taking place at Pier 39 in San Francisco on February 17th (next Saturday), was organized by Cory, not by YouTube/Google. He did receive some financial help from The Fizz, but says that all attendees are paying for their own travel and hotel expenses. You'll recognize some of the confirmed attendees: Paperlilies is coming from the UK, TheHill88 is coming from Australia, Renetto is coming from Ohio (see below), and Ysabellabrave is going to be there too, WOW!!! If you are going to be in San Fran next weekend, check out this event!

Will SAN FRANCISCO survive the YouTube INVASION?
Top 20 YouTuber Renetto (more here) is going to be at the SF Gathering! Watch this sometimes funny video where he talks about his travel plans. He'll be flying in to Los Angeles and then he'll drive with new Lonelygirl15 castmember NickyNick on a roadtrip to the North. They plan to do some filming during this trek; stay tuned for footage!
