Naughty Girls Donut Shop Controversy

Naughty Girls Tiana
This is the story of 17 year old Tiana Ramos, who had a dream to open a donut shop. She set a goal and worked hard to achieve it. An investor was impressed enough to provide 100K in start up capital after one meeting with the earnest and driven teen. With this cash infusion, Tiana opened her donut shop! What could possibly go wrong?
Naughty Girls Have Faith Too
Front Royal, Virginia is a small town in the Shenandoah Valley. Some say it is similar to the small town in the movie Footloose where a minister has banned rock music and dancing. Tiana Ramos' Naughty Girls donut shop is in Front Royal. Apparently, some local residents don't like the name of their new donut shop, nor its logo which may or may not have something resembling a devil's tale in it, nor its employees who are accused of promoting promiscuity. There is talk of a boycott of the Naughty Girls establishment, and trouble has erupted online as well as at the shop where someone threw garbage at the store's door. Is Tiana going to walk away from her dream? "Heck no!" She has faith in herself and her business. Her faith is her own, and may or may not be the same as your faith and what you choose to believe in. But here in America, we have the freedom to have faith in whatever we choose. We also have freedom of choice. We can voice our opinions about controversial issues. We can support or stay away from businesses. While some have chosen to voice dissent, Tiana Ramos has many supporters of her Naughty Girls Donut Shop. Comments on this news story include: "this is just making us rally together to support her and her efforts", "We support Naughty Girls Donut Shop!", " You are doing an awesome thing by standing up to these bullies!", "The name "naughty girls" does not promote promiscuous behavior any more than the "devil's food" label on the front of a Betty Crocker cake mix box promotes satanic worship! What ignorance!"
Tiana Boss Lady
What exactly is going on at the Naughty Girls Donut Shop? Well from what we can tell from the news stories and videos, it's just a typical food shop with excellent food! What makes it unique is the "Boss Lady" - 17 year old High School Senior Tiana Ramos, who has tattoos and is into a pinup lifestyle and Rockabilly music. In her own words, here is Tiana, talking about who she is and how her dream of opening her own Donut Shop came true. She is turning her experiences into a web series so be sure to subscribe if you like her video and if you want to support what she is doing!

Dance For Me - Dancing With The Teens

A few nights ago, I watched an excellent Documentary on PBS for the second time. "Dance For Me" is the story of 15 year old Egor Kondratenko, a competitive Ballroom dancer from Russia, and the major relationships he has in his life as he starts to build his dancing career. Egor has moved by himself to Denmark where he is living with the family of 14 year old Mie Lincke Funch, his current dance partner. Egor is the only child of Angelika who is also a talented dancer. Mie is the only child of Sanne who acts as the mother figure for both teens. Egor and Mie have formed a sibling type of relationship although the kind of dances they do require some degree of Chemistry to "work".

Egor has a very close relationship with his mom and they visit often via Skype, but still miss each other, although Angelika expresses it more, as can be expected. His father is a Russian soldier and Egor considers him his role model. Egor tries to be strong like his dad, and lively and artistic like his mom, all while transitioning from boyhood to manhood while living in another country wth another family and juggling the time demands of school and dance practice.

Mie is somewhat like Egor's mom, in that she expresses her feelings openly. Egor is more reserved and keeps things to himself. Together they try to find the best way to compete and win in several tournaments, and they do have great success. These two different people come together in difficult circumstances to blend steadfast dedication and long hours of practice with passion for their joyful movements as they assume their roles as dance partners.

I highly recommend this documentary to anyone of any age, especially for fans of Dancing With The Stars. You will gain an appreciation for what it takes to become a champion at your craft. Although the setting of the movie is dance competition, the relationship of the real life characters will draw you in and have you rooting for them to succeed on and off the dance floor! Remember, this is a documentary about real people, the best form of reality television. Watch the trailer, below. Then watch the full film at PBS until August 20th. Or purchase the film at Amazon.com using the link to the left. For more information on the film and the teen dancers, check out the PBS site for this excellent documentary, and see who each dancer is dancing for.

Children use Web to watch videos, look up sex and porn

Hello YouTubers!

This post is directed to the parents out there, or people with young brothers or sisters. We all love YouTube, but there are many videos there that are not appropriate for young children. I have written about this in my two popular articles:

Sex on YouTube - A Parent's Guide

Sex and Porn on YouTube - A Guide For Parents

I just read this news release today which starts with the headline:

Children use Web to watch videos, look up "sex"

It talks about a study of the top 100 search terms used by youngsters to find items online. As YouTube fans like us might expect, YouTube was the top search term! The ninth most popular search term was "Fred" - the most subscribed YouTuber - as we all know by looking at the Top 100 Weekly Chart.

But the words "sex" and "porn" were also it the top 10, at number four and six respectively. The news article says:

California-based Symantec's Internet safety advocate Marian Merritt said the list showed that parents needed to be aware what their children were doing online.

"It also helps identify "teachable moments" when parents should be talking with their kids about appropriate online behavior and other issues in their kids' online lives," she said in a statement

If you are a parent or a concerned older brother or sister, you may want to read my two articles so that you are educated about the situation. Make your own decisions, based on your research, about what level of YouTube access you want to provide to your children.
